Papyrus was a very big deal for Egyptians, they were going from stone to paper! For us it was like going from writing on paper to typing on laptops. Before the creation of paper ancient civilizations typically only wrote the important information on stone. Because writing documents was only reserved for special occasions much of the information and knowledge that existed in civilizations was lost as it was not recorded. After the creation of paper ancient Egyptians could record numerous ammounts of interesting information, from inventions, discoveries, laws and rules. Ancient Egyptians also used papryus to keep track of trade and interactions with other civilizations. With the new need for information to be recorded, Egyptians created a new working class of scribes (the official writers of Egypt) to write down and record important information, such as laws and rules.
